AP Statistics Practice Questions 2027

The redesigned exam has 42 MCQs and 4 FRQs — the exact same procedures still get tested, but the Investigative Task is gone and several topics were removed. Here's the highest-quality practice for the 2027 format and how to filter older material.

Where to get practice

  • College Board — released FRQs. Every free-response question with its official scoring guideline back to 1997. apcentral.collegeboard.org.
  • AP Classroom. The Personal Progress Checks and Topic Questions in AP Classroom are aligned to the 2026–27 CED — the best source of on-format MCQ practice.
  • Bluebook practice tests. Take at least one full practice test in the College Board's Bluebook app so the timer, layout, and built-in Desmos aren't new on exam day.
  • Cramapple. Full 2026–27 MCQ and FRQ sets with criterion-level grading and repair-prompt feedback.

Filtering pre-2026 material

Roughly 85% of pre-redesign practice is still valid. The topics that are no longer tested — and that you should skip:

  • Geometric distribution — any "probability the first success is on the kth trial."
  • Combining random variables — mean or variance of X ± Y as a stand-alone skill.
  • Departures from linearity as its own topic (residual plots remain).
  • Chi-square goodness-of-fit — the "does this categorical variable follow this hypothesized distribution?" test.
  • Inference for slopes — the entire old Unit 9. No more t-intervals or t-tests for the regression slope.

Old FRQs that test any of the above should be skipped or edited before you run them. FRQs on proportion tests, t-procedures, chi-square for independence/homogeneity, and descriptive regression are all still on-format.

MCQ strategy (42 questions, 90 minutes)

  • You have ~2 minutes and 8 seconds per question — enough time to read carefully.
  • No guessing penalty. Answer every question.
  • Watch for "which of the following is NOT" — the exam uses these regularly and they burn students who skim.
  • Flag long calculator problems, do them at the end.

FRQ strategy (4 questions, 90 minutes)

  1. Read all 4 questions first. Attack the one you're most confident on.
  2. Use the four-step template on every inference subpart, without exception.
  3. Show one calculator command per procedure ("Using 2-Prop Z-Test with x₁ = …") — not just the numbers.
  4. Every conclusion sentence names the parameter, the population, and the units.

More on template phrasing in the FRQ tips guide.

Mini practice set — one per unit

  1. Unit 1: Compare the distributions of daily commute times for two cities from side-by-side boxplots. Identify one bias in the sampling method used.
  2. Unit 2: A basketball player makes free throws with p = 0.82. Find P(X ≥ 8) in 10 attempts.
  3. Unit 3: In a random sample of 300 voters, 168 support a proposal. Construct a 95% confidence interval for p.
  4. Unit 4: A paired study of 12 subjects compares two blood-pressure medications. Test whether the mean difference is 0 at α = 0.05.
  5. Unit 5: A computer-output regression of GPA on hours studied has slope 0.14, s = 0.42, r² = 0.61. Predict GPA at 8 hours; interpret r².

FAQ

Where can I find free AP Statistics practice questions?
The College Board publishes every released FRQ from 1997 onward at apcentral.collegeboard.org with official scoring guidelines. AP Classroom (accessed through your AP teacher) also provides topic questions and Personal Progress Checks aligned to the 2026–27 CED.
Are pre-2026 practice questions still useful?
Mostly yes — but skip anything on the geometric distribution, combining random variables, chi-square goodness-of-fit, or inference for the slope of a regression line. Those topics were removed in the redesign. Old FRQs on proportion tests, t-procedures, and chi-square for independence remain fully valid.
How many practice questions should I do?
A reasonable target is 6–10 full FRQs covering every inference procedure, plus 200+ MCQs. Time at least two of the FRQs at 20–25 minutes each so the pacing is real.
How long should an AP Statistics FRQ take?
About 20 minutes for FRQ 1 or 2 and about 25 minutes for FRQ 3 (Inference) or FRQ 4 (Multi). If you finish in half that, you almost certainly skipped a rubric point.
